What Sets Mama Bear Apart: We Clean the Whole System

Most dryer vent companies clean the part of your vent that's easy to reach, and stop there. We don't.

Many dryer vent clogs happen at the termination point: the exterior exit of your vent, often on the roof. Bird nests, pine straw, and packed lint regularly accumulate at the roof line, where they restrict airflow and create fire hazards. Yet many companies avoid the roof entirely, either because of liability concerns or because their technicians aren't trained to work safely at height.

When the roof line gets skipped, problems get pushed (literally). We've seen jobs where a previous company cleaned only from the inside and shoved wet, moldy lint up to the roof exit, where it backed up and caused water damage to the wall behind the dryer. That's not a cleaning. That's a future repair bill.

At Mama Bear Dryer Vent Care, we inspect and clean the entire vent system, from the dryer to the termination point, every time. Roof or side wall. Short run or long. Every job.

What Sets Mama Bear Apart: We Clean the Whole System

We handle every stage of dryer vent care, from routine cleaning to full system rebuilds. Here's what we offer:

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Our core service. We use a professional-grade inspection camera to assess the full length of your vent, identify the location and condition of the lint (dry vs. wet, packed vs. loose), and choose the right brush head for the job. We clean from the inside whenever possible. It's the safest approach, especially for tall homes, and lets us vacuum simultaneously for a zero-mess result.

We always confirm the exterior exit is clear, regardless of which direction we cleaned from. For outside-access cleanings, we use a tool called the Lint Caesar to capture debris and prevent it from blowing across your yard.

Pricing:

  • Side wall vent: $240

  • Roof vent: $290

  • Includes visual camera inspection, digital airflow measurements (before and after), full debris removal, and a written report with photos.

Typical service time: side wall vents take 45 minutes to an hour. Roof vents take about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes.

Dryer Vent Repair

Over time, dryer vents fail in predictable ways: elbows behind the dryer disconnect or crack, sections sag or get crushed inside walls, exterior termination hoods break, and damper doors stop closing properly. We diagnose and repair the full range of vent system issues.

The most common repair we perform is replacing a failed elbow behind the dryer. We charge $225 to replace the elbow, properly seal the connection, and neatly fit the drywall back into place, even though the repair is hidden behind the appliance. Quality matters whether you can see it or not.

We also patch leaks using aluminum heat-rated tape, never duct tape, which degrades quickly under heat and is only suitable as a temporary fix.

Dryer Vent Rerouting & Installation

If your dryer vent has too many turns, runs too long through walls or attics, exits in a hard-to-reach spot, or doesn't meet current code, the right answer isn't another cleaning. It's a reroute or full new install.

We design a shorter, straighter, code-compliant vent path that:

  • Reduces fire risk by minimizing lint-trapping bends

  • Improves dryer performance and shortens dry times

  • Brings non-compliant or builder-error installs up to current code

  • Relocates termination points to safer, more accessible locations

We install with 26-gauge rigid hard metal pipe, which is thicker and sturdier than the 32-gauge metal sold at big box stores, and one full gauge above the 28-gauge code minimum. It's the same material we'd use in our own homes.

Pricing: quoted on-site after assessment. Rerouting and full installations vary widely based on the path, length, materials, and termination location.

Dryer Vent Inspection

Not every customer needs a cleaning. If you've recently moved into a home, you're concerned about a code violation, you have a real estate transaction pending, or you just want a professional opinion before deciding what to do, we offer a standalone inspection.

Our $75 inspection includes a full visual assessment with our 35-foot inspection camera, digital airflow measurement, identification of any code compliance concerns or safety hazards, and a written report with recommendations.

Dryer Disassembly & Cleanout

This is the service most homeowners (and most cleaning companies) overlook entirely.

Lint doesn't just collect inside the vent. It also collects inside the dryer cavity itself, packing onto the heating element, around the motor, and inside the drum housing. Lint on the heating element is the single largest fire hazard inside your dryer, and most manufacturer manuals require a professional disassembly and cleanout every two years.

We pull the dryer apart, vacuum out every accessible cavity, and put it back together, including reconnection, leveling, and a quick test cycle. $160. It pairs naturally with a regular vent cleaning.

The Transition Hose: A Hidden Fire Hazard

The short, flexible hose that connects the back of your dryer to the wall vent is called the transition hose, and the kind that came from the big box store is one of the most dangerous components in your laundry room.

There are two common problem types:

  • Semi-rigid foil crushes easily when the dryer is pushed back into place, restricting airflow and trapping lint.

  • Flex foil (the soft, ribbed silver hose) contains a layer of Mylar between two thin sheets of foil. It is highly flammable. In our own combustion test, a flex foil hose caught fire and burned through in 27 seconds.

We install a fire-resistant transition hose called Dryer Flex, which maintains its full 4-inch diameter even when compressed and meets UL 2158A safety standards. For homes where aesthetics or space matter, we can also recess the connection into the wall using a dryer box, or use a mag vent (magnetic vent) for specialty applications.

If your transition hose is silver, ribbed, and flexible, it's worth replacing. Ask us to swap it during your next cleaning.

Why Professional vs. DIY

We get this question a lot, so we'll be honest: a very short, straight vent run (less than 6 feet, no elbows) can be cleaned by a careful homeowner. Most modern homes don't have that.

Here's what typically goes wrong with DIY:

  • Using a leaf blower to clear the vent. It packs lint against the elbows in your system instead of pushing it through. Now you have a worse clog in a harder-to-reach place.

  • Using a consumer brush kit. The threaded rod connections come apart inside the vent. Now you have a stuck brush head and a stuck rod section that has to be retrieved professionally.

  • Cleaning only from inside or only from outside. Either approach alone misses critical sections of the system, especially the termination point.

Professional equipment looks different. We use inspection cameras to map the vent, 40-foot snap-lock rods that won't disconnect mid-clean, brush heads matched to the lint condition, and retrieval tools for the inevitable bird nest, lost sock, or stuck rod left behind by an earlier DIY attempt.

When Should You Schedule Service?

You should call us if you've noticed any of the following:

  • Clothes take more than one cycle to dry

  • The laundry room feels hot or humid when the dryer is running

  • The top of the dryer feels hot to the touch

  • A burning or musty smell during operation

  • Visible lint, pine straw, or bird debris around the exterior vent opening

  • Your LG dryer displays a D80, D90, or D95 error code, or your dryer's

  • Flow Sense indicator is on

  • Excessive lint behind the dryer or along the vent

  • It's been more than a year since your last professional cleaning

How Often Should You Clean Your Dryer Vent?

The industry standard is once a year, but the right answer depends on your home. You should clean more often if you have:

  • Multiple people in the household running frequent loads

  • Shedding dogs (German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and similar breeds add significantly to dryer lint)

  • A long vent run, multiple elbows, or vertical sections

  • A roof termination or other complex routing

Many manufacturer manuals recommend annual professional servicing as a condition of warranty coverage.

Quick DIY Check Before You Call

If you suspect your vent is clogged, you can run a simple test: temporarily disconnect the transition hose from the wall, run the dryer, and see if your clothes dry on the first cycle. If they do, the vent is your problem.

Don't leave the vent disconnected long-term. Exhausting hot, moist air with detergent and softener residue into your home creates mold and indoor air quality issues, and venting into a crawl space is a code violation.
